Keeping CHRIST in CHRISTmas

MEDENALES COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS BOXESboxes_10791

Believe it or not–Christmas is just around the corner!  It is time once again to start thinking about families from the community of Medenales for our Christmas Box Project.  Every year we remember our blessings and seek to bless people who are truly hungry and who need our help.  Look for a sign-up sheet in the Narthex on Sunday morning (both services and between the services) or call the church office.

Ways you can contribute to the effort:

  •  Select a needy family and provide food and gifts to make their Christmas a little brighter. Remember: This can be a group effort.
  • Select a family, donate enough money to cover expenses and let our lovely holiday helpers do the shopping.
  • Donate money to the general fund to provide for families that were not selected and to defray the costs associated with the program.         For several years, we have been able to turn heat back on for various families and to defray some other expenses.

LIGHT PARADE OUTREACH    HOT DRINK STATIONhot choc -candy cane drink

*First Saturday in Dec  6-7pm

Reaching the community where they are, volunteers needed  to  serve hot  choc & spice cider @ Los Alamos Christmas Parade.  Our location this year will be Central Park Square parking lot under a lighted tree.  A cup of cold water doesn’t fit this season.  However a free hot drink  for those passing by served with a Christmas smile will certainly go a long way.   In addition, anyone who wanted to join the banner parade with Travis and Steve to pass out candy canes are welcome.  It would be great to have families and youth walking the parade.

DECORATE THE MITTEN TREE

mitten-treeThe Mitten Tree has been a traditional Christmas project in our church for at least 25 years. The mittens, hats, scarves, boots and socks we collect during the season go in many directions, warming many hands, heads and feet that might otherwise be cold. We send the preschool mittens to the Covenant Education Center in Shiprock, which is part of the Four Corners Native American Ministry. The older children’s hat and mittens are given to the Los Alamos Elementary Schools. The adult items are sent to the Abundant Grace Free Store at Harwood UMC in Albuquerque. A box of women’s and children’s hats and mittens help those at the Crisis Center in Espanola.

Christmas Eve  Candlelight Communion  5 & 7PM

We come together on Christmas Eve to celebrate. This celebration is deeper than decorations, traditions, candles and carols. It’s meaning is best captured in the sacrament of Holy Communion we celebrate on that evening. God gives himself through the incarnation of His Son Jesus, and we receive unmerited grace as we receive Him anew in the bread and wine. This Christmas Eve let us remember what it cost God to send the Child in the Manger. Join us  in the service that best fits your family schedule as we keep CHRIST in Christmas.
