2017 Stewardship – Honoring the Past; Looking into the Future

 If you consider First United Methodist Church, Los Alamos your Church home this letter is for you. We are preparing for a new future and focusing on stewardship this month. As we do so, I offer this list of 10 questions (on the back side of this letter) as we discuss what it means to be a child of God, a disciple of Jesus Christ, and part of this Church. I realize the questions are challenging. They are meant to be. Only when we are willing to challenge each other in constructive and healthy ways can we really say we are doing the work of God in the world.

I cannot answer these questions for you. No one else can. Each of us must struggle with what they mean for us and come to a conclusion we can live with. The questions are no easier for me than for you. My wife, Elaine and I will struggle with them along with you.

Reflecting on these questions and our 2017 Campaign “Honoring the Past; Looking to the Future” let us make promises to each other:

  • That we will each look seriously at these questions;
  • That we will be honest with ourselves and others in dealing with our fears, hopes, and dreams about our Church’s future;
  • That we will rely on God’s grace and purpose for us, and be guided by God’s Spirit in addressing our commitment to Christ and the Church’s ministry.
  • That we will come to worship November 20 to offer our lives together to the ministry of our Church

With that, we will pray for God’s grace as we approach the future.

Your Pastor and Friend in Christ,

Steve Trout

God is good all the time.  All the time God is good.  We live in a world of abundance because our God is abundant.  God’s generosity is evident in the beauty of creation and the abundance of God’s love and grace in Jesus Christ.  We praise God every day in our prayers and every Sunday in our corporate worship.  Every ministry of our Church is based on the abundant grace of God.  We Connect one another and the community to Christ, we Grow to maturity in Christ, we Care for one another in Christian community, and we Send one another in ministry and mission.

We ask that you prayerfully consider your pledge amounts for 2017 over the next few weeks as we celebrate the Past – Present- Future.  It is the intent of the Finance Committee to establish the budget for 2017 based on your pledge cards, and we must determine the necessary adjustments from the 2016 budget.   Recognizing changes in giving due to retirements & relocations, the finance committee is working diligently on the 2017 budget.
